Game Sessions
Understand the live batter count
Use the balls-and-strikes lights while tracking a Game at-bat, and see how the count changes as pitch results are recorded.
Read the count lights
- Start or resume a Game session.
- Look underneath the icons in the upper-right of the active pitch-tracking screen.
- The three green lights represent balls, and the two red lights represent strikes. Unfilled lights are gray.
How the count changes
- Called Ball increases the ball count.
- Called Strike and Swing Strike increase the strike count.
- A Foul Ball adds a strike only when the batter has fewer than two strikes. An ordinary foul does not produce strike three.
- On strike three, the result can be paired with K Looking or K Swinging without recording a second pitch.
Because the count follows the recorded pitch sequence, correcting a pitch result can change the displayed count. Pitches without an explicit result may display an assumed ball after a brief delay.
After the at-bat
Use Next Batter to advance. If you try to place another pitch after a completed at-bat, Play Catch may ask Start a new batter? Starting a new batter resets the count for that at-bat.
Count lights and report statistics are differentThe lights help you follow the current at-bat. Saved reporting uses the recorded pitch data, and unclassified pitches may be treated differently depending on available statistical settings. See Understand pitching statistics.
