Pitches

Complete Established Arsenal

Goal: Test whether a pitcher can execute intentional sequences against both batter sides.

Warmup

Before the first pitch.

Complete a proper throwing warm-up before scoring pitches. Use full-body movement, progressive catch play, and enough mound-ramp-up pitches for the arm, fastball, and delivery to feel ready.

Warm-up throws are not included in the workout score, but they still count toward the pitcher’s total throwing workload for the day.

Coaching Focus

  • Define batter side and sequence before the first pitch.
  • Mirror locations without forcing identical movement profiles.
  • Judge individual pitches and the complete sequence separately.
  • Let the pitcher own the final two pitch-selection decisions.
  • Separate a sound decision from the quality of execution.

Set Up Your Pitch Track Session

Choose Game Session. Create three markers:

+

SEQ HIT

Apply to the third pitch when the complete sequence remains usable.

+

SEQ MISS

Apply to the third pitch when one or more pitches break the sequence.

+

GOOD DECISION

Add to a coach-supplied situation when the pitcher’s pitch and location choices fit the batter side and count.

Results

Score the Session

Count sequences graded Sequence Hit. Score the 10 complete sequences, then review pitcher decision quality separately for the final two.

8–10 complete sequences

Great

The pitcher executed a dependable plan against both batter sides. Confirm whether the final decisions also matched the supplied situations.

6–7 complete sequences

Competitive

Sequence execution was usable but uneven by batter side or pattern. Identify the plan that held up most consistently.

0–5 complete sequences

Keep Working

Too many sequences broke before completion. Reduce the arsenal choices and rebuild one pattern against each batter side.

Sequence Rules

  • RHH/LHH: Mirror in, away, glove-side, and arm-side locations by batter side.
  • Complete: All three pitches remain usable for the planned sequence.
  • Decision: The selected pitch and location fit the supplied batter side and count.
  • Separate Scores: Record execution, sequence completion, and decision quality independently.

The final two sequences are intentionally pitcher-called. A good decision can still be poorly executed, and a good result can come from a poor decision—record them separately.

Development or preseason: 1–2 times per week with about 48 hours between structured mound sessions.

In season: 0–1 development bullpen per week. A game appearance or other meaningful mound session replaces it.

Arm Care

Quality ends the session before the count does.

Pitch counts are ceilings, not quotas. Adjust the session for age, recent workload, current season, recovery, mechanics, and the pitcher in front of you.

This workout is an educational pitching-development resource, not medical advice or a rehabilitation program. Adjust it for the pitcher’s age, experience, recent workload, recovery, and established throwing plan.

  • Stop immediately for shoulder or elbow pain, sharp discomfort, or altered mechanics.
  • Reduce the workload when command, effort, or movement quality deteriorates.
  • Count the full throwing day—warm-ups, drill throws, long toss, bullpen pitches, and game pitches all matter.
