Nine-Out Bullpen

Simulate three innings and nine hitters to measure outs, efficiency, first-pitch execution, miss quality, and decisions under pressure.

Pitches

Complete Established Arsenal

Goal: Record outs, efficiency, first-pitch success, miss quality, and decision-making in a game-like bullpen.

Warmup

Before the first pitch.

Complete a proper throwing warm-up before scoring pitches. Use full-body movement, progressive catch play, and enough mound-ramp-up pitches for the arm, fastball, and delivery to feel ready.

Warm-up throws are not included in the workout score, but they still count toward the pitcher’s total throwing workload for the day.

Coaching Focus

  • Set batter side, count, and base state before each matchup.
  • Let the pitcher choose the sequence.
  • Assign the result from execution and game-mode tags.
  • Keep the four-pitch maximum for every batter.
  • Track decision quality even when the outcome is favorable.

Set Up Your Pitch Track Session

Choose Game Session. Create four markers:

+

OUT

Use when execution earns an out for the simulated batter.

+

CONTINUE

Use when the plate appearance continues or produces a neutral contact result.

+

WALK

Use when command produces a simulated walk.

+

HARD CONTACT

Use when execution produces a simulated hard-contact result.

Results

Score the Session

Count the outs recorded across nine simulated batters. Use the report to compare efficiency, first-pitch success, miss quality, and decisions by inning.

9 outs recorded

Great

The pitcher completed the nine-out objective. Review pitches per out and whether execution held from inning one through inning three.

6–8 outs recorded

Competitive

The pitcher recorded competitive outs but left clear opportunities. Identify whether walks, hard contact, or inefficient sequences limited the result.

0–5 outs recorded

Keep Working

The simulated innings produced too few outs. Simplify the game plan and focus on first-pitch execution and competitive misses.

The workout

Sequence

  • Inning 1 — Three Batters: Get Ahead Windup and Stretch
  • Inning 2 — Three Batters: Manage Contact Windup and Stretch
  • Inning 3 — Three Batters: Finish Under Pressure Windup and Stretch

Simulation Rules

  • Matchups: Each inning includes 1 RHH, 1 LHH, and 1 coach-selected batter.
  • Pitch Limit: Maximum of four pitches per batter.
  • Delivery: Use windup or stretch according to the assigned baserunner state.
  • Outcome: Coach assigns out, continuation, walk, or hard contact from execution and tags.

This workout is intentionally unscripted because pitch selection is part of the evaluation. Measure outs, pitches per out, first-pitch strikes, noncompetitive misses, walks, hard contact, successful sequences, and changes across the three innings.

Development or preseason: 1–2 times per week with about 48 hours between structured mound sessions.

In season: 0–1 development bullpen per week. A game appearance or other meaningful mound session replaces it.

Arm Care

Quality ends the session before the count does.

Pitch counts are ceilings, not quotas. Adjust the session for age, recent workload, current season, recovery, mechanics, and the pitcher in front of you.

This workout is an educational pitching-development resource, not medical advice or a rehabilitation program. Adjust it for the pitcher’s age, experience, recent workload, recovery, and established throwing plan.

  • Stop immediately for shoulder or elbow pain, sharp discomfort, or altered mechanics.
  • Reduce the workload when command, effort, or movement quality deteriorates.
  • Count the full throwing day—warm-ups, drill throws, long toss, bullpen pitches, and game pitches all matter.
