Full-Arsenal Location Matrix
Test four pitches across four location categories to separate dependable weapons from pitch-location combinations that only exist in theory.

Goal: Identify which pitch-location combinations are actual weapons and which only exist in theory.
Warmup
Before the first pitch.
Complete a proper throwing warm-up before scoring pitches. Use full-body movement, progressive catch play, and enough mound-ramp-up pitches for the arm, fastball, and delivery to feel ready.
Warm-up throws are not included in the workout score, but they still count toward the pitcher’s total throwing workload for the day.
Coaching Focus
- Define the four pitch types before the session.
- Use the same location category for all four pitches in each block.
- Keep finish locations specific to each pitch’s movement profile.
- Retest the weakest location without narrowing the target further.
- Evaluate each pitch-location pair—not pitch type alone.

Set Up Your Pitch Track Session
Choose Bullpen Session. Create four markers:
+
FB
Use for every fastball in the matrix.
+
CH
Use for every changeup in the matrix.
+
ADV 1
Use for the first established advanced pitch.
+
ADV 2
Use for the second established advanced pitch.
Results
Score the Session
Count Target Hits and Competitive Misses across all 32 pitches. Then evaluate each pitch-location pair separately in the report.
24–32 usable pitches
Great
The arsenal produced usable execution across the matrix. Identify which combinations qualify as dependable weapons.
19–23 usable pitches
Competitive
Several pitch-location pairs were usable, but the matrix exposed clear gaps. Prioritize the weakest repeatable combination.
0–18 usable pitches
Keep Working
Too many combinations were noncompetitive. Reduce the matrix and rebuild one advanced pitch across broad locations.
Sequence
- 4 Pitches — Glove Side, 1 of Each Pitch Windup
- 4 Pitches — Glove Side, 1 of Each Pitch Stretch
- 4 Pitches — Arm Side, 1 of Each Pitch Windup
- 4 Pitches — Arm Side, 1 of Each Pitch Stretch
- 4 Pitches — Primary Finish Location, 1 of Each Pitch Windup
- 4 Pitches — Primary Finish Location, 1 of Each Pitch Stretch
- 4 Pitches — Weakest Location, 1 of Each Pitch Windup
- 4 Pitches — Weakest Location, 1 of Each Pitch Stretch
Matrix Rows
- Glove Side: Each pitch works to its usable glove-side location.
- Arm Side: Each pitch works to its usable arm-side location.
- Primary Finish: Each pitch works to its best established finish location.
- Weakest: Retest the least dependable location for each pitch.
Calculate Target Hit, Competitive Miss, and Noncompetitive Miss rates for each pitch-location pair—not only each pitch overall. Stretch-only pitchers may complete the matrix from the stretch.
Development or preseason: 1–2 times per week with about 48 hours between structured mound sessions.
In season: 0–1 development bullpen per week. A game appearance or other meaningful mound session replaces it.
